Overview
The Remote Sensing and GIS course at Ulster University incorporates theoretical material and extensive hands-on practice, covering aspects such as the acquisition, manipulation, analysis and interpretation of various forms of geospatial data. Examples of the application of remote sensing and GIS are drawn from both the physical and social environment.
The programme aims to satisfy an industrial and public sector demand for science-qualified geospatial personnel who can use advanced spatial analytical skills to interpret big data and thus inform planning and development in disciplines such as conservation, agriculture, forestry, natural resource management, climate change, marine planning and sustainable urban development.
New for this September, the online course combines modules in Remote Sensing with GIS modules from our well-established and popular GIS Masters.
The industry
The benefits of GIS are increasingly recognised within government, business, education and the voluntary sector, and the applications of geospatial data technologies are steadily growing.
In recent years there has been rapid growth globally within the Space Industry, exploiting data acquired through new satellites and airborne sensors, giving rise to huge potential to map, monitor and understand systems and change in terrestrial and marine environments across the world.
