Whether you’re interested in the geography of the Mediterranean region, or urbanisation—or its converse, isolation— or its culture and history, this taught programme provides you with the opportunity to express your ideas on a lavish territory in the context of the wider world. 

The M.A. Mediterranean Studies from the University of Malta  will encourage you to redefine the ‘Mediterranean’ in the frame of any convincing argument of your choosing.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • Outline the key traits that have shaped Mediterranean events over centuries and explain their significance to contemporary developments.
  • Learn how to make use of archival resources and to write academically about the field.
  • Recognise and relate the diversity and the unity that characterise the Mediterranean.
  • Learn about the many dimensions and cultural deviations of the Mediterranean and understand their importance when devising national and regional strategies.
  • Discern the benefits of an interdisciplinary approach to gain a holistic perspective of socio-politico-cultural issues in contemporary society.

The Course shall be open to applicants who are in possession of:

  • a first cycle degree obtained with at least Second Class Honours or Category II in any subject or
  • a first cycle degree obtained with at least Third Class Honours or Category III in any subject, provided that they satisfy the Board that they are in possession of other qualifications, including relevant experience, obtained following their first cycle degree.
