The M.A. Literary Tradition and Popular Culture from the University of Malta  invites you to interpret all kinds of works, theories and pop cultural phenomena to come up with an appraisal for why particular literature captures the public’s imagination. 

If you’re interested in the arts, comparative literature, canonicity and the fundamental eminence and aesthetics behind why works of literature enjoy universal acclaim, this programme is geared towards training you to be critical and to embark on your own exploration of literary standards of excellence and pop culture sensations.

The taught Master of Arts in ‘Literary Tradition and Popular Culture’ enables you to seek employment opportunities both locally and abroad. You will be desired to be employed in a wide spectrum of proficiencies, ranging from teaching, broadcasting, journalism, publishing and consultancy, to the Foreign Office, Public Relations, Personnel Management, Advertising, Ministerial Secretarial Careers, Political careers, script writers and proof readers. You will also have the opportunity to pursue a doctoral study after having obtained your Master of Arts.

General requirements

The Course shall be open to applicants in possession of one of the following qualifications:

  • the degree of Bachelor of Arts (Honours) with Second Class or better in the same or in a closely related area of study as the area of study applied for,
  • provided that the Board may consider applicants in possession of the Degree with Third Class Honours only if it is satisfied that such applicants are in possession of other qualifications, including relevant experience, obtained following the first cycle degree or
  • the degree of Bachelor of Arts in the same or in a closely related area of study as that applied for, with an average mark of not less than 55% in that area or
  • a degree from this or from another university which the Board considers as comparable to any of the degrees indicated in paragraphs (a) and (b) above.
