Special Education

Overview

The Special Education program from Abu Dhabi University provides a firm grounding in understanding a range of special needs in children of various ages, as well as effective teaching strategies and lesson planning for these groups. Theory and practice is combined in special needs classroom instruction and extensive clinical experiences, with individual guidance being key.

You will leave the program equipped to tackle the challenges that come from working with students who have special physical, emotional, intellectual or emotional needs, as well as tools to deal with disruptive behavior and gifted students alike.

Our unique six term structure offers you ultimate flexibility in terms of start date and study schedule and means you can complete the program in one year. This also allows you to better manage your workload as you take only two courses per term delivered in the evenings and weekends. If professional or personal commitments dictate that you need to miss a term, it is easy to catch up.  Ours is the only such program in the UAE that offers such flexibility. 

Career opportunities

It is mandatory for schools within the UAE to employ teachers/coordinators with special needs qualifications. This gives graduates of this program a variety of career opportunities in both the public and private school sectors, as well as organizations focused specifically on special needs.   They may use the knowledge and skills gained from the program to enhance their mainstream teaching role or choose to specialize in the areas of early intervention or special education teaching, as well as administrative and supervisory roles.

The acquisition of a master’s degree demonstrates a high level of knowledge in your chosen field. You may use it to enhance your employability, as preparation for further academic research or as a means of professional training.
