
Overview
Research and knowledge exchange within the field of mental and physical health/wellbeing is a key priority for the 21st century.
Our divisional expertise spans a number of areas central to responding to societal and medical needs.
This is carried out within a range of contexts and using a number of research methodologies.
Current research covers areas of Comparative Physiology at Abertay University
- counselling and mental health such as projects to understand and respond to the impact of long-term health conditions; the impact of developmental challenges and childhood experiences of mental health challenge; as well as the development of mental health professionals, best practice, and resilience within nursing care contexts.
- Health-related biomolecular and genetic research:- for example, the examination of the pathophysiology of infertility; anti-microbial resistance and impact environmental contaminant exposure; and comparative physiology of metabolism.
All of which are supported by expertise in research ethics and statistical modelling.

What does a research degree involve?
- As a postgraduate research student, you will carry out an original, independent research and/or practice-based project, whilst being guided and supported by a team of expert academic supervisors.
- As you do this, you will benefit from an extensive programme of researcher development tailored to your background, needs and future ambitions. This will in turn help you develop the skills required to deliver research excellence.

- The minimum entry requirement for all our research degrees is an Upper Second Class Honours degree (or equivalent) at undergraduate level in an appropriate discipline and/or a Master’s degree.
- In some cases, appropriate professional or experiential learning may be considered in combination with a lower classification of Honours degree.
