About

Study one-on-one with our expert faculty, receive advanced training in vocal performance, and build a vocal repertoire for teaching. At the Vocal Performance - Music Theatre and Vocal Pedagogy MM/Adv. Cert. from New York University you'll perform in fully staged productions, working with professional directors, choreographers, conductors, and designers.

Overview

You’ll graduate with the healthy vocal technique you need for an extended vocal performance career. Take advantage of private voice instruction, vocal coaching, music theatre workshops, and more, as well as course work in areas such as script analysis and dramaturgical process; acting and dance; music criticism, film music, and music therapy; music theatre history; vocal pedagogy theory and practice; and guided electives, such as audition skills and theatre dance.

In addition, every semester you may choose from a sequence of music theatre workshops focusing on song analysis, character analysis, music theatre styles, and vocal production. At the Vocal Performance - Music Theatre and Vocal Pedagogy MM/Adv. Cert. from New York University you'll also have the opportunity to take classical voice training and participate in opera workshops and fully staged opera productions.

Career Preparation

You will gain a level of performance excellence that will serve as the foundation for your vocal performance career. You'll also craft a technical foundation in vocal production, learn how to demonstrate a respect for the value of the text – the words that are sung as well as the sounds that are made – along with a demonstrable understanding that the best singing is an amalgamation of a freely produced sound and a personal need to communicate.
