Overview
At the Vocal Performance - Classical Voice MM program from New York University you’ll study with our experienced faculty and perform in fully staged productions with support and feedback from professional directors, choreographers, conductors, and designers.
Your courses will give you a healthy vocal technique that will provide a strong foundation for whatever area of voice performance you choose to pursue. Beyond classes in opera performance and classical song repertoire, you’ll take classes in diction, vocal coaching, classical voice business skills, and stagecraft, as well as acting and dance classes conducted by working professionals in the industry, and you can choose from guided electives, such as opera workshop and theatre dance.
In addition to work in classrooms and studios, you’ll have the opportunity to perform in fully staged productions under the guidance of professionals who count among their credits opera companies and theatre both in and out of New York City. You'll also have the opportunity to cross traditional lines and participate in music theatre workshops as well as fully staged music theatre productions.
Career Preparation
As your terminal degree experience, you will perform a graduate recital. You must be able to demonstrate a technical foundation in vocal production that will allow your voice to evolve in an efficient and healthy manner throughout the years that follow your training at NYU Steinhardt.
