Overview
Beginning in January 2023, students accepted into specific Ontario Graduate Certificate programs by Humber College , including international students, will be eligible to transition into the one-year transdisciplinary Master of Digital Media (MDM) program by Toronto Metropolitan University.
In just two semesters, you will learn the skills needed to move a project through conceptualization, initiation, planning, execution, control and closing. The curriculum is designed in collaboration with industry and closely aligned to the Project Management Institute's Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK), as well as international best practices.
You will thoroughly explore the key stages of the project life cycle, project economics and financial analysis, procurement, risk and stakeholder management, leadership skills and professional best practices through a comprehensive project delivery model. Students will learn to appreciate the importance of people, processes and business/strategic alignment to project success.
The Project Management program from Humber College also exposes students to the adaptive/Agile approach to project management and the various frameworks that fall under the Agile umbrella. Students learn about trends in project management including cutting edge technology and electives in areas such as public sector, information technology, construction and strategic portfolio management.
Your Career
The Project Management Institute (PMI) stated that project-based industries could be at risk due to the lack of skilled project managers, based on a studies conducted by The Anderson Economic Group (AEG). In 2017, a significant talent gap was revealed that further presents opportunities for employment and career advancement in this area.
In a PMI-commissioned study entitled, Project Management Job Growth and Talent Gap 2017-2027, AEG looked at 11 countries and found that by 2027, the project management labour force in key sectors was expected to grow by 33% (22 million new jobs) and consequently, employers would need some 88 million employees in project management-oriented roles.
Recently the PMI has highlighted, through a similar study, industry’s focus on building digital skills and the technology quotient as important talent development priorities to complement technical, leadership and strategic/business competencies. Delivering value using a mix of project management approaches is a priority for these organizations.
