Overview
About the Program
- The Master of Library and Information Science at Louisiana State University program is 100% asynchronous online with no on-campus requirements.
- Students are admitted for the Fall and Spring semesters.
- GRE scores are waived for applicants who meet the requirements for unconditional admission.
- In-state tuition is also available to residents of the Academic Common Market states of Arkansas, Delaware, Virginia, and West Virginia.
- Students may complete the program part-time or full-time.
- All core courses and more than 80% of elective courses are taught by full-time faculty.
- Student are not required to select a specialization area, but those who elect to do so can choose from nine career-specific specializations ranging from academic, public or school libraries to archival studies to digital content management.
- Students may also choose to earn a Dual Degree with one of our Graduate Certificates, a master's degree in History, or another approved academic discipline.

General requirements
All students must apply through and be admitted by the Graduate School. All application materials must be received by the application deadlines. In addition to materials required by the Graduate School, the following materials are required for all students applying to SLIS:
A resume that includes all undergraduate and graduate education (regardless of whether a degree was earned), continuing education, and relevant employment and volunteer experience.
A Statement of Purpose of at least 1000 words that answers these three questions:
- Why do you want to earn the degree?
- What are your career goals and objective?
- How will the degree help you to achieve these goals?
