About the Civil and Environmental Engineering at University of Rhode Island
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering offers a curriculum leading to the Master of Science in Civil and Environmental Engineering (M.S.), and the Doctor of Philosophy in Civil and Environmental Engineering (Ph.D.) degrees. Graduate students specialize in one of the four available areas: Environmental Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Structural Engineering, and Transportation Engineering.

- Two recommendation letters
- Transcripts of all postsecondary studies
- International applicants need to also submit the TOEFL score.
- Applicants claiming Rhode Island or Regional residency status need to also submit the required documentation.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil or environmental engineering. Candidates in other engineering or closely related fields may be accepted with the possibility of additional undergraduate prerequisite courses being required.
- Adequate undergraduate preparation in the proposed major field or equivalent evidence of an appropriate background for undertaking an advanced degree program
- A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better in the undergraduate career that can be confirmed with official transcripts from the institution (some programs may require a higher or lower GPA).
