The European Legal Studies and International Economic Law LLM course from University of Hamburg  is a joint course offered by the State University of St. Petersburg and the University of Hamburg.


The European Legal Studies and International Economic Law LLM course from University of Hamburg is carried out by the Europa-Kolleg Hamburg in cooperation with the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce and is the product and expression of both the cooperation of the two universities, as well as the town twinning between the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg and St. Petersburg. 

Key facts:

The aim of the program is to prepare highly qualified students in a practice-oriented way for a variety of careers related to legal and economic aspects of cooperation and trade relations between the EU and Russia. The program also offers students the opportunity to learn and / or to optimize legal German and English. Graduates receive degrees from both universities as well as a common course and grading overview.

Programme Structure


  • The program is divided into eight sections, four of which take place in Hamburg, where the first year of the program is completed, and another three in the second program year in St. Petersburg. In between, students complete a compulsory internship at a freely chosen location. 
  • Firstly, the foundations will be laid in introductory events on the EU as a legal, economic and political community. In the following focus, the program participants deal with companies as actors in cross-border markets. In addition to specialized language courses, international commercial law, commercial law, but also peculiarities of the Russian legal system are subjects of the specialization courses.
