The Master of Arts in International Business and Economics degree programme reflects our idea to provide our students with a truly international approach in a unique programme and to prepare them for a successful professional career in business or for their subsequent research.

Welcome to the accredited Master’s programme offered by the Faculty of Business and Economics at Schmalkalden University of Applied Sciences. Our Master’s degree programme combines economics and business administration as, in international business, these two fields blur into each other: government policies affect economic decisions; corporate behaviour in turn influences international politics.

With our applied research approach, we are highly committed to being an educational institution of excellence in the fields of business and economics as well as aim at an international group of students. We anticipate more than two-thirds of our Master’s students to have an international background and to come from different countries, thus creating an international studying environment here in Schmalkalden. In addition, the modern campus building with state-of-the-art technology, a high level of interaction between students and faculty members, and small groups of students working together provide a learning environment you may not find elsewhere.

In addition, we also offer our best students the opportunity for a dual degree, which can give them access to a Master of Business Administration degree (MBA) at our dual degree partner universities in the United States and Spain as well as access to a Master of Science degree (M.Sc.) at a university in Canada, England and Iceland.

Programme Structure

Our Master of Arts in International Business and Economics is a four-semester programme lasting 24 months in which students can earn a total of 120 ECTS credits. The first two semesters take place in Schmalkalden, where students can enrol in modules in the fields of accounting and finance, economics, management and philosophy. Additionally, they can participate in an international seminar as preparation for their semester abroad which can be undertaken during the third semester of the programme. The semester abroad can be completed at one of our more than 70 partner universities. During the fourth semester – either in Germany or abroad – students will write their Master’s thesis with the intention to further develop their personal skills, academic understanding and their ability to carry out research.
