Programme Structure

The Online LLM in Environmental and Energy Law is taught by a team of highly qualified and experienced lecturers, and covers all the essential areas relating to energy management and environmental protection. By offering such a comprehensive and diverse learning experience, you will be empowered to respond to local and global challenges, anywhere in the world.

Studying this programme takes approximately 2.5 years to complete. It is a 180-credit programme (including a 60 credit dissertation). Modules include:

Environmental and energy regulation
Law relating to nuclear energy
Assessment and financing of energy projects
Oil and gas law
Environmental protection and pollution control
Renewable energy and climate change law

Audience

The University of Birmingham’s Online LLM in Energy and Environmental Law has been specifically designed for LLB-qualified lawyers or those who already work in the sector and are seeking to consolidate their knowledge in a world-class environment.

Lecturers

The online LLM is led by Dr Sandra Ingelkofer. Her main research interests include European Union Law, Comparative Constitutional Law and Environmental Law. For each module you will have a dedicated module convener and seminar tutor, and will be in contact with them regularly as they guide you through the programme content, discussion activities and assignments.

General requirements

For entry to the online LLM, you must have obtained (or be predicted to obtain) an upper second-class degree in law from a UK university OR an equivalent qualification from a recognised institution.

Alternatively, you may also apply if you have obtained an upper second class degree in an allied field with demonstrable sector experience. Contact us to learn more.

If English is not your first language, you must also have an up-to-date English language test certificate. Alternative test certificates are also accepted, and exemptions can be made. Please contact us to find out more.

Offer in Principle:

Email your degree certificate (onlineadmissions@contacts.bham.ac.uk) to us and a member of the online admissions team will provide feedback within 48 hours. Students who meet standard entry criteria are eligible for an ‘Offer in Principle,’ which is valid for 30 days. If you receive one, we can support you in submitting a fast-tracked application.
