Overview

This MSc Chemistry at The University of Hull allows you to explore advanced chemistry topics across the range of organic, inorganic, physical and analytical chemistry.

The course will help you develop an understanding of where the forefront of chemistry lies and how research advances the boundaries of chemical knowledge. You’ll be trained in advanced practical skills required in a chemical research laboratory and undertake a significant piece of original research work in a selected field.

What you'll study

You’ll learn through a combination of practical classes, workshops, tutorials, masterclasses and lectures. You’ll work independently and within small groups to undertake research and problem-solving tasks. The culmination of the programme is an independent research project, where you’ll write a dissertation to present your results.

Future prospects

Hull teaches a modern curriculum covering key areas of analytical chemistry of importance to industry, including process analysis, quality assurance, spectrometry and chromatography; and cutting-edge interdisciplinary research topics in areas such as lab-on-a-chip.

The knowledge and skills you will learn on this MSc will prepare you for a wide range of careers including: analytical chemist, nanotechnologist, and research scientist to name just a few.

The University of Hull undertakes world-class research in many scientific areas and are famous for our pioneering work on liquid crystals. Many of our Masters students choose to progress on to PhD-level study.
