Biochemistry is the bridge between biology and chemistry and is the basis of all life. This degree will extend your knowledge of the complex chemical reactions between molecules in biological systems.

The state-of-the-art Allam Building, which links our biology and chemistry departments, is at the heart of biochemistry at University of Hull . You will be taught by biochemists, chemists and biologists – leaders in their fields, from researchers in medical imaging, metabolic and cardiovascular diseases, wound healing and cancer, to experts in lab-on-a-chip miniaturised biochemistry.

What you'll study

You’ll learn through a combination of practical classes, workshops, tutorials, masterclasses and lectures. You’ll work independently and within small groups to undertake research and problem-solving tasks. The culmination of the programme is an independent research project, where you’ll write a dissertation to present your results.

Future prospects

This MSc will develop your technical and scientific skills to prepare you for future specialist employment. Potential career options could include: analytical chemist, clinical research associate, forensic scientist and toxicology – to name just a few.

  • At least a 2.2 Honours degree (or international equivalent) in biochemistry or related subjects (e.g. chemistry, biological chemistry, biomedical sciences, toxicology, pharmacology, etc.). 
  • For applicants who have not studied a biochemistry degree, we would need to ascertain their knowledge of chemistry prior to admission.
