The Law and Economics - Law and Economics of Insurance and Finance programme from University of Bologna aims to train specialists who will have solid knowledge in the fields of economics, law, statistics, econometrics and business administration, as well as the ability to analyse the interactions between economic systems and institutional frameworks and to understand the influence of rules and regulations on the way businesses, markets and public administrations operate.

Through the study of economics, students gain advanced knowledge of economic analysis in the main sectors concerning business activities and market regulation. In particular, students acquire detailed knowledge of the way in which different contractual arrangements create and change the incentives that determine the behaviour of the different parties. They acquire sound knowledge of the economics of competition and the ability to analyse antitrust cases autonomously. 

They gain detailed knowledge of the economic functions of the different institutions governing intellectual property, of regulation models and of the main methods of economic intervention for private sector enterprises as well as public enterprises or enterprises with public participation. They also acquire knowledge of the founding principles of business ethics and how they have developed over time.

General Requirements

  • Admission to the second cycle degree programme in Economics and Law requires possession of a first cycle degree or a bachelor degree awarded after three years of study, or a foreign educational qualification recognised as suitable.
  • Additionally, it requires possession of curricular requirements and to have passed an assessment test.
  • To attend the Second Cycle Degree programme in Economics and Law, candidates need to have acquired adequate knowledge in the field of economic analysis and legal studies.
  • Additionally, the candidates will be tested on their English proficiency level which should be at least B1.
