Overview
General Description
Graduate studies are offered at New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology in areas of specialization. We strive to pursue practical research projects that are founded on basic science in collaboration with industry. Students are taught advanced laboratory and fields techniques. In addition, analytical and computer skills are enhanced on the graduate level.
Faculty work, for the most part, in teams and often work with faculty and researchers at other Universities and National Laboratories. The sharing of knowledge beings diversity and breadth to our focus on applied research. Hence, our students are prepared to be leaders in industry.
Specialization in Mineral Engineering, Explosives Engineering
Research in blast effects involve studies both at the source, by evaluating geologic structures, and at structures, by measuring structure response. In addition, blast induced damage in the vicinity of the blast is studied and correlated with fragmentation and blast design parameters. Students have many opportunities to work in the field while others prefer to conduct research in computer modeling of detonations, forensics, and development of shape charges.
