Our Educational Leadership and Management Programs have been revised and approved by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. This revised program meets the new Education Leadership Standards and prepares educator administrators for the rigorous demands of leading today’s schools.


Fitchburg State University offers this program designed specifically for the NISL candidates who wish to pursue a graduate degree. The program has been developed in recognition of the rigorous coursework contained in the NISL program and its alignment with Fitchburg State University’s Educational Leadership and Management (EDLM) program objectives. Candidates can apply for the MEd or CAGS degree and receive 16 EDLM graduate program credits for a reduced tuition.

Academic Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Required score: 2.8

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 2.8 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

General Requirements

  • Official transcripts from all graduate programs from which you are requesting transfer credit and, if applicable, all

  • Three letters of recommendation from individuals under whom the applicant has studied or under whose supervision
  • they have worked in a professional capacity.
