Industrial Engineering - Accelerated Master's offered by the University of Arizona is charged with the responsibility of ensuring high quality while simultaneously meeting cost and output goals.  This is accomplished through the optimal allocation of resources throughout the system.  Industrial engineers practice in both administrative and production segments of manufacturing and service organizations. 

Industrial engineers are commonly employed in heavy industry (such as steel), medium industry (such as plastics and computers), light industry (such as electronic assembly), health care delivery, electronics, telecommunication, transportation, service, government.  In each of environments, industrial engineers are involved with a variety of systems such as marketing, production and process design, production planning, management information, facility layout, job/workplace design, material flow and distribution.

Programme Structure

The Master of Science in Industrial Engineering requires 30 or 33 units to complete.  If you are completing using the report option you will need 27 units of approved coursework and 3 units of a Master's report.  If you are completing using the thesis option you will need 24 units of approved coursework and 6 units of thesis.  Both the Thesis and Master's Report require a 3 member committee and an oral presentation as well as a written report.

  • Completion of a minimum of 75 undergraduate credit hours is required at the time of application;
  • Students whose cumulative GPA on a minimum of 12 units of undergraduate credit hours at UA is equal or above 3.3 can apply
  • Completion of at least 12 earned undergraduate credits in their major 
  • Completion, or near completion, of general education requirements at the time of application
  • Demonstration of the maturity necessary for success in an accelerated, highly competitive program
  • Expectation to complete the undergraduate degree within four years.
