Featuring field-based research and hands-on learning, the special education program in Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities (PreK-8, initial licensure) and Applied Behavior Analysis from Cambridge College prepares highly innovative teachers who meet the regulations for licensure of Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities (PreK-8 and 5-12) in Massachusetts.

Overview

This program in Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities (PreK-8, initial licensure) and Applied Behavior Analysis from Cambridge College requires that you have a current job in a setting that will enable you to meet the BACB’s supervised field work requirements. 

This includes having a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA®) who has agreed to provide supervision for the field work. Accrual of supervision hours and applied projects requiring access to clients and supervision are also essential components of the program.

Special Education (PreK-8 or 5-12, Initial Licensure) Learning Outcomes

As a graduate of this program, you’ll understand how moderate disabilities affect progress in learning academic content of the general curriculum, and strategies for helping special education students to excel. You’ll also be prepared to become a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA).

Special Education Jobs

Earning your master’s degree in special education and then becoming licensed as a Teacher of Students With Moderate Disabilities prepares you for rewarding and high-demand careers—whether you want to make a career change or you’re already a teacher and want to move into special education.

Students who complete this program will be eligible for licensure to teach in grades PreK-12 as a co-teacher, a consulting teacher, or a teacher of record in resource room settings. All of these opportunities offer competitive pay and excellent job security. Graduates will also be eligible to become certified behavior analysts with a teaching license.

  • Personal Statement - Write a two-page, typed, double-spaced essay (500 words) describing your professional experience, your goals and objectives for graduate study and for educator licensure.

  • MA Educator Documentation from the Massachusetts Dept. of Elementary and Secondary Education (ESE) website.
  • Required for entry:
  • Initial or professional license in Massachusetts. See also program-specific requirements.
  • Massachusetts Educator Personnel ID  (MEPID number).
  • MTEL Communication & Literacy Test, successfully completed.
  • Fingerprinting and Criminal Offender Record Information
  • Official demonstration of English language proficiency
