 As part of the Sussex Centre for American Studies, you’ll learn from passionate, international faculty with a range of critical perspectives. You have the opportunity to explore topics such as: 

  • American thinking and philosophy

  • modernity and activism
  • the great American novel
  • transatlantic Romanticism.
Critical American Studies degree offered at University of Sussex offers stimulating seminars, hands-on research and access to digital resources unavailable elsewhere outside the US. You’ll develop a rich understanding of North America in the context of both its history and its current position as a global superpower in a state of flux.

You should normally have an upper second-class (2.1) undergraduate honours degree or above.

Your qualification should be in American studies, media, literature, history or a relevant humanities subject where you studied American history and culture. You’ll also be considered for the course if you have relevant professional experience.
