The Food and Nutritional Sciences program offered at the University of Wisconsin Stout offers two concentrations to students with a related or unrelated bachelor's degree and an interest in food safety, food product development, nutrition, and health. Both concentrations offer exceptional value, ease of completion and an applied research track to professional positions with competitive salaries.

Our Concentrations

The Food Science and Technology concentration prepares you for a career in food science, food product development, processing technologies, and management of quality assurance while providing:

  • Graduate co-ops/internships leading to positions in demand in geographic area
  • Opportunities for applied research, sensory evaluation, and independent studies on real industry problems
  • Small student-to-faculty ratio providing ready access to professors with a broad range of food expertise

The Human Nutritional Science concentration prepares you for positions in public health, food management, medical facilities, wellness, education, and dietetics while offering:

  • Dual enrollment for undergraduate and graduate courses meeting dietetic competencies and MS degree requirements at the same time
  • An accredited dietetic internship requiring the MS degree completion
  • Mentoring by MS program alumni as dietetic internship preceptors and job supervisors illustrating regional demand

Academic Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Required score: 3

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 3 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).
