Networked information technology is permeating into all corners of our life. Business intelligence, autonomous vehicles, intelligent systems, data mining, machine vision and machine learning, mobile computing are the buzz words used to describe the latest innovative trends. System developers and software architects need comprehensive specialist knowledge and additional skills. The Applied Computer Science programme from Esslingen University of Applied Sciences provides ths necessary expertise and skills.
The Choice Is Yours
The Applied Computer Science programme from Esslingen University of Applied Sciences offers four major fields of studies. Autonomous Systems deals with the methods and technologies used in autonomous vehicles and systems. Business Intelligence focuses on the analysis and use of Big Data. Mobile Computing teaches the skills needed to develop mobile applications and Web services. If none of the above major fields of studies corresponds to your personal interests, an own individual specialisation to suit your preferences can be chosen.
Research And Development
The Master's programme imparts skills that go far beyond a Bachelor's programme. The curriculum is very research oriented. Two large research projects have to be done, a publication in addition to Master’s Thesis must be written. The close cooperation with the Fraunhofer KEIM Applied Research Center which is sited at Department of Information Technology ensures that always a large range of interesting and current research topics. The Department of Information Technology has a sound network of industrial partners which offer assignments for research projects and final theses. This ensures that the course content is always up-to-date, and oriented towards actual research and modern applications.
How Is The Programme Structured?
The Master's programme takes three semesters to complete. The first two semesters are each divided into three sections: core modules of computer science, electives and research projects. The work for the Master’s Thesis is done in the third semester.
The core modules extend the theoretical knowledge with advanced courses in IT security, IT management, theoretical computer science and advanced software engineering. The research project can be done in a company, a research institution or at Department of Information Technology. Electives can be selected to suit personal preferences from one of the three major field of studies Autonomous Systems, Business Intelligence, Mobile Computing, or can also be taken from more than one specialisation when an own specialisation will be prefered. The programme concludes with the Master’s Thesis in the third semester. The Master’s Thesis can be done in a company, a research institution or at Department of Information Technology.
All graduates of the Master's programme in Applied Computer Science have sound knowledge in the core areas of Advanced Software Engineering, IT Management, IT Security Engineering and Theoretical Computer Science. This knowledge from the core areas enables them to work in an engineering and scientific manner, to methodically execute and manage software projects and to focus on IT security. In addition, both research projects acquire technical and social skills, such as abstraction skills, system analytical thinking as well as team and communication skills, which prepare for future management tasks.
