Overview
The Educational Media - Library Media program at the University of South Alabama is designed to prepare students to plan, design and administer library/media centers and qualify students to serve as School Library Media Specialists in a P-12 educational setting. This program is offered completely online.
School Library Media Specialist Certification Options
Satisfactory progress in the program will be predicated on a combination of factors such as academic success, demonstration of competence in requisite skills, adherence to ethical standards, appropriate interpersonal functioning. Successful completion of this program may qualify the candidate for Class “A” Professional Educator Certification in Library Media Specialist provided that they already hold Class “B” Professional Educator Certification in a teaching field.

General requirements
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education
- A minimum overall GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale based on the GPA used as the basis for granting the degree and posted on the official transcript from a regionally accredited institution at the time the degree was earned OR a 2.5 GPA on the last 60 semester hours of undergraduate course work
- A valid bachelor’s-level (Class B) or valid (Class A) master’s-level professional educator certificate in a teaching field or a valid master’s-level professional educator certificate in another area of instructional support
- A two (2) page, double-spaced narrative from the applicant indicating the applicant’s goal(s) and purpose(s) for pursuing the field of Educational Media (uploaded within application)
- Resume or CV (uploaded within application)
- A minimum of two years full-time teaching experience.
