The Environmental Sciences program at The Cyprus Institute involves two specialization tracks, each dealing with important aspects of the field and aiming to shed light on and address the aforementioned challenges. Students who enrol in the program will select one of the following two tracks: The Atmospheric Sciences Track or the Meteorology Track.

Why the Environmental Sciences program at The Cyprus Institute ?

  • Aligned with the research activities and educational focus of the Climate and Atmosphere Research Centre (CARE-C), a regional European Center of Excellence for Climate and Atmosphere Research based in Cyprus for the EMME region, focusing on addressing urgent climate change and air pollution challenges and impacts in the EMME
  • Addressing great societal challenges at national and regional levels in line with the Cyprus Climate Change Initiative, launched by the Government of the Republic and scientifically coordinated by the CyI, aiming at the development of a Regional Action Plan to address specific needs and challenges faced by the EMME region 
  • Strong research component: students involved in research activities in different laboratories of the CyI; project/thesis carried out in a research team, providing a great opportunity for being exposed to researchers that are active in cutting edge topics; research oftentimes ends up in reports and scientific publications
  • Possibility for summer project or internships with industry and the private sector

  • Atmospheric Sciences Track: career opportunities in environmental consulting agencies, environmental monitoring divisions of public and private institutions, research institutions and universities
  • Meteorology Track: career opportunities in national meteorological services, meteorological consulting, software or instrumentation companies, media, commercial weather services, insurance and finance, research institutions and universities
  • Opportunity to pursue a PhD; graduates can apply for the PhD in Energy, Environment and Atmospheric Sciences offered at CyI, with certain course requirements waived and with generous financial aid options

To be considered for admission to a Master’s Program, applicants must have the following:

  • A Bachelor’s degree from a recognized accredited academic institution with a strong background in a relevant field of study.

  • Proof of English language proficiency Applicants whose first language is not English must provide recent evidence that their spoken and written command of the English language is adequate for the program to which they are applying. 

Proof of English language proficiency may be demonstrated by submitting one of the following certificates:

  • IELTS Academic Version: at least 6.5 (taken within the past 2 years)
  • TOEFL Internet-based Test: at least 79 (taken within the past 2 years)
  • GCSE/IGCSE: Grade C or above (preferably with speaking)
