About

The Mathematics programme offered by the University of Wolverhampton enables you to further your mathematical knowledge in a broad range of areas of pure and applied mathematics and statistics.

Overview

Material covered includes mathematical modelling (say of disease transmission and population dynamics), perturbation theory, representation theory, cybermetrics and various areas of statistics and financial mathematics.  Your dissertation can be undertaken in any one of a number of different areas of mathematics, and will be supervised by a member of the academic staff.

Mathematicians are warmly welcomed in industry, business and commerce for their analytical ability and logical approach to problem solving.  Choosing this course will enhance your prospects of securing relevant employment.

This Mathematics programme offered by the University of Wolverhampton is also suitable if you are planning a career in teaching mathematics or are already a qualified teacher seeking to improve your promotion prospects.  Successful completion of this course may also open up opportunities to study for a doctorate level course.

Potential Career Paths

Students will have developed advanced technical skills in mathematics and statistics together with an ability to critically analyse and evaluate complex problems.  These skills should equip students to enter careers in a variety of areas, including for example operational research, statistics, information analysis, financial advising, actuarial work and accountancy.

There is a shortage of mathematics-related skills both nationally and regionally, and in particular there is a recognised severe shortage of qualified mathematics teachers.  Hence the qualification that this course confers will enhance the employability of its graduates.
