About

Coaching and mentoring is now viewed as an essential part of a leader or manager's toolkit. Organisations increasingly need to improve and change, developing independent, questioning employees who seek feedback and growth and leaders need to be equipped with the skills to meet their team's development needs, while encouraging self-reliance and creative problem solving.

It will be of significant value to you, whether you are already working in a leadership or management position, or seeking to take your career along that path.

Learning from, and through, experience

The Leadership and Management (Coaching and Mentoring) course at University of the West of England (UWE Bristol) has a strong practical bias, so the coaching and mentoring theories are taught in relation to the experiences of the participants on the programme. We use students' own case studies to enrich the classroom experience and encourage debate as well as drawing on the experiences of our tutors, who are all accomplished practitioners themselves.

The skills to lead and succeed

You will develop the transferable skills that are vital to be a successful leader or manager today from creative problem solving, to understanding interpersonal dynamics at work, to leading with a strong sense of social responsibility. You will also develop valuable self-reflection skills that you can take with you, as you develop and progress as a successful leadership practitioner.

Flexible learning options

We offer two different options as Postgraduate Certificates in Leadership and Management: this course, which focuses in particular on developing your coaching and mentoring skills, and the Postgraduate Certificate Leadership and Management, with a general focus on leadership and management.

Careers / Further study

The PGCert in Leadership and Management (Coaching and Mentoring) at Bristol Business School will give you the broad-based skills, confidence and insights you need to firmly position yourself as a highly effective business leader or manager.

The course is suited to those already working at this level, who wish to consolidate their learning and keep abreast of the latest thinking in leadership and management. It is also suitable for those looking to build a management level career.

Accreditation

Learning from the Coaching and Mentoring UWE module can be accredited towards the ILM Level 5 Certificate in Coaching and Mentoring or the Level 7 Certificate in Executive Coaching and Mentoring.  You will be required to undertake further assessment to gain the ILM qualification.

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to Lower Second Class on the UK Honour scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on the UK Honour scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

You will need:
