Materials engineering is an interdisciplinary field that studies composition, structure, processing, properties and performance of materials used for products. The development and engineering of materials are of paramount importance in advancing technology, and essential for any industrial process or technology. Materials enable engineers to design and manufacture ideas into devices and structures with the best performance.

The Master of Engineering in Materials Engineering from Flinders University  has been designed to provide you with a strong foundation in both the theoretical and practical aspects of materials engineering, and an understanding of advanced processing and fabrication methods of engineering materials and their characterisation.

You will develop an awareness of the social, economic, cultural and environmental aspects of materials engineering in the design and manufacturing of engineering components and processes, and an understanding of your professional and ethical responsibilities.

The course teaches you to critically analyse and evaluate information and solve materials-related problems, work and interact professionally, and undertake research in materials engineering and relevant areas.

General requirements

Applicants must normally hold one of the following:

  • Flinders University’s Graduate Diploma in Engineering Science (specialisations M1-M2)
  • a relevant Bachelor of Engineering, or Bachelor of Engineering Technology, Bachelor of Engineering Science
  • an equivalent overseas qualification with an average grade of credit (5.0) or greater.

Students without such a qualification should apply for the Graduate Diploma in Engineering Science.
