Overview

Please note effective 20 March 9pm AEDT, the Australian Government implemented new travel bans and restrictions whereby only Australian citizens, Permanent Residents, their spouses and dependants could enter the country. For students who would like to study a course that’s offered on campus, we will work with you to enrol you online first and transition you to campus once the travel restrictions change.

Materials represents an important component of many technological products and the engineering of materials connects to a variety of research areas including nanotechnology, biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical sciences, electrical engineering and civil engineering.

Materials engineers also look closely at materials failure – fracture, corrosion, wear – destructive and non-destructive testing, and are generally interested in solid materials as they are primarily the materials used for manufacture.

Materials engineering involves whole-of-life considerations, including recycling, and generally involves using materials in bulk.

Career

Materials engineers are able to find jobs in almost all fields in which technology is developed providing a great range of career opportunities to work as a metallurgist, process engineer, corrosion engineer, polymer engineer, ceramist, quality control engineer, and surface coatings scientist after graduating this Engineering Science - Materials from Flinders University .
