The Graduate Diploma in Midwifery from Flinders University aims to provide the opportunity for registered midwives to deepen their knowledge and skills in midwifery and prepare them for an expanded practice role. This course will not lead to registration as a midwife. 

Career

Graduates are suitable for a wide range of careers in midwifery such as working in clinical practice in hospitals or in community, research, education or management roles. Applicants are advised these courses do not lead to eligibility for registration as a midwife in Australia.

Accreditation

Graduates who successfully complete specified topics in pharmacology/ prescribing and investigations/diagnostics will be able to apply to the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia for endorsement in prescribing medications in midwifery.

General Requirements

Applicants must normally hold a midwifery degree or equivalent qualification, and must hold a current certificate of registration as a midwife. However, the Dean (Education) may, under certain circumstances and subject to specific conditions, admit others who can show evidence of fitness for candidature.
