Overview

The Safety Leadership program at Griffith University includes further material on understanding, managing and communicating about risk. You will develop expertise in safety scholarship and learn the concepts, methods and skills required for research, workplace improvement and further learning. You will plan and execute a substantial research or industry project, based on your chosen topic. This degree will also make you eligible for further doctoral research. 

The first year of the Master of Safety Leadership Program is common with the Graduate Certificate in Safety Leadership, and provides a critical understanding of safety theory, ethics, organisational research and safety management systems. 

Career opportunities:

You will find career opportunities in system safety, process safety, and occupational health and safety roles at manager and director levels, particularly in industries such as energy, construction, healthcare, aviation, mining, manufacturing, transport, and human services. Exciting career paths are available in corporations, government and consulting firms. You will also be prepared for a research-related career and eligible for entry into a doctoral program and for consideration for higher degree by research scholarships.

General Requirements

To be eligible for admission to the Master of Safety Leadership, applicants will require the following:

  • hold a Bachelor degree in an engineering, science, psychology, health or safety discipline
  • OR hold a Graduate Certificate in Safety Leadership (students will be eligible for 40 credit points of advanced standing).
