Media designers create films, animations and immersive media. They combine creative storytelling with state-of-the-art workflows and experimental approaches. With storytelling at the core of their work, students of the Media Design study track in the Master’s degree programme in Interaction, Media and Sound Design create live-action films, 2D and 3D animations, VFX, motion graphics and projects in virtual space. They use creative processes, design methods and state-of-the-art technologies to create digital narratives and immersive experiences that transport audiences into new worlds.
Key subject areas
- Storytelling. Live action film. Animation.
Good storytelling is at the heart of every project. From the initial idea to the finished scene, the Media Design program from FH Joanneum University of Applied Sciences teaches you to develop innovative narrative structures for live action film, animation, and interactive and immersive media. You will implement your concepts in professional film shoots and video projects – both on set and in post-production.
Whether accompanying live-action film or as a standalone medium, animation brings abstract and narrative content to life. Motion graphics, stylised 2D or photorealistic 3D open up a wide spectrum that is in demand in the film and media industry.
- Workflows. AI tools. VFX.
To implement your ideas, you will use professional workflows in virtual production, post-production and VFX. AI tools increase the efficiency and quality of your work and prepare you optimally for the media requirements of the future.
- Individual. Experimental.
Beyond classic screens, innovative storytelling techniques such as projection mapping and live visuals open up new possibilities for performative and immersive projects. Individual work and research topics give you the freedom to further specialise and develop your own artistic signature.
In the Master of Science in Media Design at FH Joanneum University of Applied Sciences, you will further develop your expertise in specialist fields of design such as motion design, on-air design, game design and online publishing as well as in various interdisciplinary settings. You will focus on new narrative forms, combine conceptual and design content and take account of interdisciplinary aspects.
