The Master in Marriage and Family Therapy program offered my Lee University core provides educational preparation in ethical and legal issues, human growth and development, human sexuality, systems theory, diagnosis and treatment of mental illness, family therapy, couple therapy, assessment, and research.


Many faculty members of Lee University are practitioners who bring real world experience into the classroom. Faculty members are selected to teach courses according to their expertise and emphasis is placed on practical application of concepts and theory.

 The clinical portion of the program provides supervised counseling experience working in the community with culturally diverse clients. 

Program Objectives

At the end of the program, the graduates of the Master in in Marriage and Family Therapy from Lee University should have acquired the necessary advanced skills, knowledge, and experience to:

  • Knowledge:  Successfully pass licensure exams for practice as marriage and family therapists.  
  • Skills:  Successfully obtain employment working as marriage and family therapists.
  • Diversity: Demonstrate clinical competency in their work diverse clients and show attitudes of openness and respect.
  • Identity: Obtain licensure as marriage and family therapist and become clinical fellows of AAMFT.  
  • Stance: Work using an approach to conceptualization, diagnosis, and treatment that is relational, systemic, and contextual.

  • $25.00 U.S. dollars nonrefundable application fee
  • Checks drawn from overseas banks are not accepted. International money orders are suggested. 
  • Official records of post-secondary academic work. All academic records and other credentials must be accompanied by an official English translation
  •  The official language at Lee University is English. A TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score must be officially reported by the Education Testing Service if the applicant is from a non English-Speaking country (Lee University’s institutional number is 1401)
  • Financial Statement. A sponsor’s guarantee form and bank statement, documenting that there is sufficient financial resources for two semesters of study including travel expenses. This is a United States government regulation that is strictly enforced by Lee University.
