Overview

Our mission: To honor both the university’s holistic approach towards education and its scholastic principle, as well as to meet the university’s goal, which strives to ensure that each and every student reaches their full potential given their differences in terms of talents, temperaments, skills, and backgrounds, our department is committed to the following objectives:

  • To inspire our students to excel in both their knowledge of physics and their grasps of advanced innovation technologies, so as to ensure that our students are well equipped with both fundamental and professional trainings and meet the requirements for the country’s technological and economic developments.
  • To help our students succeed in their academic or professional careers by providing solid training in fundamental physics and stimulating both their independent and creative thinking.
  • To do so, two sub-fields concentrating on physics and photoelectric material science, respectively, were set up under the undergraduate program in 2007. Students have been recruited accordingly. The curriculum is characterized by the following features:

  • The sub-field concentrating on physics: The focus is placed on fundamental physics.
  • The sub-field concentrating on photoelectric material science: In maintaining a balance between theory and experiment, the focus of this sub-field extends to providing a quality learning environment where both the theory and practice concerning photoelectric material technology are covered.
  • The graduate program: To maintain a balance between fundamental and applied research, the graduate program is not only devoted to the systematic research method, but also careful not to lose the balance between theory and experiment. Our research interests cover both fundamental physics and applied research. We aspire to establish ourselves as an internationally acclaimed institute where a wide range of research interests are supported.
  • Programme Structure

In addition to the required core courses such as General Physics, Mechanics, Electromagnetism, Thermal Physics, Optics and Quantum Physics, undergraduate students of the department are required to choose between Physics Division and Optical & Materials Sciences as their concentration so that they will be specialized in promising areas.
