The Master of Arts in Teaching program at Fairmont State University will provide teacher candidates with an interdisciplinary curriculum and collaborative field experiences/clinical practice in order to assure a quality graduate for employability.

Fairmont State's online Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) degree is ideal for those who already have a bachelor's degree or higher in liberal arts (e.g., English, Social Studies, Spanish), fine arts (e.g., Art), scientific fields (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, General Science), or health fields (e.g., Exercise Science, Kinesiology) and are interested in becoming a licensed teacher.
The online program is designed to ensure candidates have acquired the competencies and expertise to be effective educators. The program provides the professional education courses and clinical experiences - including student teaching - necessary to prepare candidates for teaching in a specific content area in grades PreK-Adult, 5-Adult, or 9-Adult (see Specializations for a list of all certification options). An endorsement in Special Education may be added to the MAT degree after the initial license is earned.
