Our Mathematics Education program at Manhattanville College incorporates standards by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM), the Common Core State Standards, and the Mathematics requirements of New York State. We prepare our teacher candidates to deliver inquiry and problem-based instruction in the classroom in order to develop the critical thinking and analytical skills of their students.

We emphasize a hands-on, active learning approach in the classroom, with the role of the teacher being a coach and facilitator. We believe that research in mathematics content informs practice, and mathematics teachers should be cutting edge and well informed in their respective content areas. Our goal is to graduate highly qualified teacher candidates who can implement a constructivist approach in the classroom using state-of-the-art educational technology.

Our teacher candidates will be highly qualified with regard to mathematics content area knowledge, pedagogical content knowledge and the art of teaching.
