The main scientific areas of the course are Computational Discrete Mathematics, Numerical Mathematics, and Computer Science, areas which play a central role in the modern technologies.
The applications include, among many others, image processing, computer-aided design / manufacturing (CAD/CAM), secure and reliable communication technology, and formal verification of software.
The Mathematics and Computation course at University of Minho gives not only the opportunity to use advanced computational tools like symbolic computational system and libraries of scientific computing, but also the necessary instruction for the analysis and implementation of new algorithms. The course results from collaboration between the Department of Mathematics and Applications and the Department of Informatics of UM.
