About

If you are a health professional (for example medical doctor, nurse, midwife) and you aspire to develop or-/ boost your career in international health, then this programme is designed for you. At the Royal Tropical Institute (KIT)  we offer a master degree in International Health.

Overview

This Master’s in International Health offered by the Royal Tropical Institute (KIT) is a flexible programme and can be completed within 1 year (full-time), and up to 5 years (part-time) and as a “blended programme” with online modules, depending on your availability. It consists of a core course, advanced modules, and a research project submitted as a thesis.

You can choose from hundreds of accredited advanced modules from institutes across the TropEd network.  This allows you to design a programme that is tailored to your specific wishes and needs. With this variety of modules, the MIH prepares you optimally for your desired field of work -whether that be maternal and child health, HIV and AIDS, disaster settings, research, health policy, human resources or another area.

Career opportunities

Possible career possibilities having completed the MIH:

  • National Representative for non-governmental organisations (NGOs) working in the field of international health
  • Programme Officer working in international organisations dealing with international health, such as Doctors without Borders, World Vision;
  • Policy Adviser working in national organisations or governmental institutes dealing with international health issues

Accreditation

The MIH is organised by KIT Royal Tropical Institute and the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU) and is accredited by the Netherlands-Flemish Accreditation Organisation (NVAO).

Programme Structure

  • The Master in International Health (MIH) aims to develop the capacity of health professionals planning to work at the interface of international organisations and national health systems.
  • Because you can design your own programme, the MIH prepares you optimally for your desired field of work – whether that be child health, HIV and AIDS, maternal health, disaster settings, research, health policy, human resources or another area.
  • The international health expert works in the field of international health, focusing on health problems of disadvantaged populations. The expert has an multidisciplinary approach to health and generates and applies evidence from their own work and from work from other contexts, disciplines and actors.
