The main ideas and the most relevant mathematical techniques are presented through financial examples: pricing of derivatives, risk management, asset allocation. The mathematical background is aimed at the preparation of a student of Economics, allowing flexible learning through which he can subsequently analyze applications at a time (eg risk and performance measures) and at multiple periods both in discrete time and in continuous time (es pricing of derivatives under non-arbitrage conditions).
These applications are also presented through specialized literature and examples. Avoiding overlap with other related disciplines, the training path combines teaching aimed at developing logical-deductive skills and problem-solving skills. The verification of learning is performed throughout the course, stimulating an active participation by students.
The student is actively called to interact with the teacher in order to develop a capacity for independent judgment concerning probabilistic models treated in class. The future graduate will have to be able to recognize the descriptive and / or normative aspects of these models, extrapolate the essential elements to be verified and activated the research and the appropriate use of information sources via the web (articles in magazines, working papers, empirical studies, databases, etc.).
