About the education

Innovative environments, methods and tools

The education at Halmstad University is characterised by our profiling as a university that drives innovation. In the Applied Environmental Science programme of Halmstad University you have access to state-of-the-art study environments, including the Bioanalysis Lab, which is part of the interdisciplinary Rydberg Core Laboratory (RCL).

In the Bioanalysis Lab, you can perform a wide range of biological and chemical analyses, including analysis of nutrient content in soils, tissues and water as well as gas composition and microscopy. The lab also contains an experimental wetland installation for testing wetland design and function as well as a biogas testing laboratory for assessing substrates for biogas production.


The Master's programme in Applied Environmental Science gives you the opportunity to work on ecological and environmental issues as well as environmental and health protection in county councils, municipalities and other organisations. You can profile yourself so that your skills are particularly attractive to consultancy firms in the environmental protection sector.

The programme prepares you, among other things, to work with environmental development, or as an environmental coordinator at a company or a public authority.

General requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Biology with orientation towards nature conservation, Natural Sciences with orientation towards environmental issues, or the equivalent, at an accredited university. Degrees from other countries than Sweden must be at the same level as a Swedish Bachelor’s degree. 
  • Applicants must have written and verbal command of the English language equivalent to English course 6 in Swedish Upper-Secondary School.
