Most candidates are able to begin their first teaching position just two years after starting the program
Credential Options
You will choose one of five Illinois teaching licenses as part of the MAT program, and your coursework and clinical experiences will prepare you to pass necessary exams and meet Illinois requirements to teach in your chosen age group. Licensure options available are:
- Early Childhood Education (Birth to Grade 2)
- Elementary Education (Grades 1–6)
- Middle Grades Education (Grades 5–8)
- Senior High (Grades 9–12)
- K–12 Education (Art, Spanish, Music, and Physical Education)

- A certificate of finance and affidavit of support
- Copies of your passport and, if available, your visa and current I-20
