We ensure that the modules that you will study give you a comprehensive insight into the cutting edge world of motorcycle engineering and how it is evolving to meet the needs of the consumer, the industry and the environment. In recent years the advances that have been made in the field, due to the continued pressure of environmental sustainability and increaased performance, have led to great technological advances in both chassis and powertrain design and there are now large numbers of jobs for engineers with the skills that we provide.
Most of our modules are taught through a combination of lectures and practical workshop or laboratory experience. Students are actively encouraged to participate in the large number of extra curricular activities that we run as a school as we feel that these compliment the academic studies and provide real world examples on which to test the ideas and skills which you learn in the lecture theatre.
This course is for you if you are passionate about motorcycles and aspire to work in a cutting edge industry where precision and innovation are paramount. You need to enjoy analytical and numerate subjects such as Maths and Physics and are expected to achieve or have already achieved good A-Level (or equivalent) grades in these subjects. You see a career in the motorcycle industry as your ultimate goal.
This programme enables students to develop the specific expertise required in such areas as data acquisition, motorcycle dynamics, engine and powertrain development and motorcycle engine and chassis design for the development of the modern road and competition motorcycle.
Students from this programme have been involved with race teams from championships such as British Superbike and MotoGP, and the University of Wales Trinity Saint David has excellent links in this ever evolving industry.
Many of the staff in the university are keen motorcyclists and understand your passion for two wheels. We have a number of student led competition teams and extra curricula activities that can often be linked with your project and assignment work.
Despite the seeming specialisation of this course however, the skills you will gain are completely transferrable to the wider automotive industry which still provides an outstanding career path for many of our graduates.
