Nazareth’s graduate literacy programs (Birth-Grade 6 and Grades 5-12) prepare specialists who can meet the literacy needs of all learners, but, particularly, those who are challenged by learning to read and write. By completing their program’s requirements, they earn a master’s degree as well as eligibility for NYSED certification as a literacy specialist.

  • Develop a repertoire of evidence-based instructional strategies to support all students becoming literate.
  • Develop the appreciations, understandings, knowledge, and habits to be a teacher who changes students' lives.
  • Choose a certification program, either birth-grade 6 or grades 5-12. Add one additional clinical course and be eligible for both certifications.

Academic Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 3 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).
