This program focuses on the integrated connections among all the literacies (reading, writing, speaking, listening, and more recently, viewing and technology) as a foundation for understanding the various content areas. 


The program is designed for licensed teachers who wish to enhance their professional preparation in the field of reading/literacy and/or prepare for other responsibilities in education, such as school reading coordinator. The conceptual framework for this graduate program is based on the five core propositions of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards and the International Reading Association Standards. Candidates who complete this program will earn AA licensure in Remedial Reading, grades K-8 or 7-12.

Academic requirements

English requirements

TOEFL admission requirements TOEFL® IBT The TOEFL iBT® is given online through the internet at designated testing site. The test measures your English-language abilities in an academic setting. The score refers to the total score of 4 subjects (writing, listening, speaking, and reading), each subject has a range of 0 - 30.
IELTS admission requirements IELTS The International English Language Test System (IELTS) tests your English-language proficiency on a scale of 1 – 9. The score refers to the combined average score of 4 subjects (writing, listening, speaking, and reading).

General requirements

  • A completed application

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited four-year institution

  • A minimum 3.0 quality point average in the proposed area of study

  • English Exam Scores

  • In some programmes, submission of GRE or GMAT. Students in the M. Ed. Program may substitute scores on the National Teachers Examination (NTE).

  • Three recommendations of the student's qualifications for graduate work

  • Official certified transcripts, diplomas, and certificates translated in English

  • Letter of financial backing with supporting documentation

  • Scheduled meeting with Dean of Students

  • Agreement to purchase or show health insurance coverage

  • Proof of immunization of measles, mumps, and rubella is required

  • Proof of test screening for tuberculosis
