The Reading program at the University of Findlay states that how confident a student is in their reading ability impacts so many aspects of their life.As early as third grade, reading skill strength has been used to predict whether a student is going to graduate of high school, what their future economic status will be, the odds that they will be incarcerated and self-esteem levels later in life. 


The Reading program at the University of Findlay states that as an educator, you know that reading opens a new world of interests and possibilities to children, adolescents, teenagers and adults. The University of Findlay strives to provide our Master of Arts in Education Reading Emphasis students with the tools they need to provide reading skills and strategies to any aged student they are working with. 


Our online program covers many topics within the field of reading. Emphasis is placed on:

  • Special Needs
  • Intervention techniques
  • Inclusion in the classroom
  • Specific special needs assessments
  • Research
  • Current issues in the teaching of reading
  • Our research course aligns with the International Reading Association Standard of the Preparation of Reading Professionals

Academic Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Required score: 2.75
Recommended score: 3

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 2.75 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of 3 or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

General Requirements

  • Supply a copy of teaching certificate(s) or license(s) when applicable. 
  • Possess a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution or hold a first-professional doctorate when no baccalaureate degree was offered (e.g., Pharm.D., etc.). 
  • Submit official transcripts, which can be in the form of attested credentials from a University-recognized document verification agency, of all college-level work.
