The Education - Science Education program at the University of Findlay helps teachers take their classes into the schoolyard or natural area and give them the basic tools they need to identify common plants, insects, birds and miscellaneous invertebrates in this area. Collection and preservation techniques, as well as the ethics of collecting and research will be included.

Overview

The Education - Science Education program at the University of Findlay is an individually designed, online course that can be tailor-made for the teacher regarding content focus. Teachers will choose two content areas to use as a focus and opportunities for educators to incorporate content into hands-on activities and methodologies into the classroom is part of the course work. 

Workshops

STEM teachers from Northwest Ohio are invited to Findlay's campus to begin the process of developing novel curriculum to incorporate into their own classrooms. This workshop will showcase the importance of alternative fuels like biodiesel and demonstrate how the production and utilization of fuel from waste oil can make a significant impact on the Northwest Ohio economy and community as a whole. 

As a part of this workshop, participating education will receive:

  • Hands-on experience in the lab working with biodiesel production and testing
  • One credit hour of workshop credit through Findlay's Master of Arts in Education Program  
  • Expenses paid for related costs such as fees and meals
  • $1000 stipend for the purchase of equipment and supplies related to the incorporation of a new curriculum developed around this workshop

  • Graduate applicants to the University of Findlay are students who have completed the equivalent of a U.S. four-year bachelor’s degree at either a regionally accredited U.S. institution or an institution recognized by the Ministry of Higher Education in their home country.
