The Building Surveying programme offered by Western Sydney University caters for your need to understand performance-based building code principles and is relevant to professionals developing alternative solutions using the Building Code of Australia.

Western Sydney University building surveying courses are one of only two such offerings available in Australia.  We take a balanced approach to training in fundamental knowledge and problem solving skills. You will gain an understanding of building regulations, basic fire safety technology and engineering principles, building access and development control. You will gain knowledge in the practical assessment and approval process adopted by the industry and will also build experience in conducting a project on an individual basis.

Career Opportunities

Graduates of the Master of Building Surveying course will be equipped with the knowledge to work in the private sector or in government. As building surveying graduates you may pursue careers as construction project managers or safety inspectors. You may be exposed to more employment opportunities throughout the course.


The course is recognied by the NSW Building Professionals Board (BPB). Full accreditation with the Australian Institute of Building Surveyors (AIBS) is being sought..

    The IELTS – or the International English Language Test System – tests your English-language abilities (writing, listening, speaking, and reading) on a scale of 1.00–9.00. Academic Requirements

Applicants must have an undergraduate degree or higher, in engineering, building, building surveying, construction, planning, bushfire protection or architecture.

Applications from Australian and New Zealand citizens and holders of permanent resident visas must be made via the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC). Use the links below to apply via UAC or Western Sydney University. Applications made directly to Western Sydney do not have an application fee.

Applicants who have undertaken studies overseas may have to provide proof of proficiency in English.
