Get your master’s in teaching jazz from the university that’s in sync with you — Capital
Mastering and teaching the essence and intricacies of jazz is a never-ending process. It’s shaped your life and career. It’s a career that never stops calling on you to elevate your own musicianship and teaching skills — and instill your love of jazz in your students. It’s a call that brings music educators from throughout central Ohio and around the world to Capital for graduate study. And it’s easy to see why.
Our faculty includes standouts like Bob Breithaupt, Rob Parton, Stan Smith, Michael Cox and cofounder of the Jazz Education Network, Dr. Louis Fischer. At Capital, you’ll encounter a blend of educational and music theory and real-world application and best practices. The program will provide invaluable insights, techniques, and discovery you can put to work immediately with your students in the fall or in private lessons for years to come.
A master’s program designed to work around — and for — you.
In the Music Education - Jazz Pedagogy program of Capital University, you can participate in our four-day Complete Band Director Workshop and learn how to establish, administer and teach a well-balanced jazz band program. And if you’re running your own summer band camp, you can enroll in just one of the two summer sessions and still earn your master’s degree in only three summers. This flexibility is just one of many reasons so many music educators choose Capital for their Master of Music in Music Education.
