About

Course Overview

Become a trained multimedia journalist with our brand new Journalism degree offered by Plymouth Marjon University.

We couple this with a built in work experience module at a media outlet to practice your professional skills and make you more employable in the media industry. Taught by a well-connected team of practising journalists and multi-media academics, this Masters has been specifically designed to meet the needs of media employers right now.

As well as developing the fundamentals of accurate storytelling and honing a keen news sense, you will be taught advanced skills for print, radio and TV broadcast. You will learn through practical sessions which focus on technical skills and key software packages as well as a range of lectures on key themes such as ethics and media law led by industry experts. You'll also develop through workshops, newsdays and regular tutorial support. You will be based in our cutsom designed Journalism and Media centre where you will have 24 hour access to a newsroom, online radio station and editing suites.

What might you become?

This masters course prepares students to work in radio, TV, print or digital platforms. You will graduate equipped to work as a reporter at a local and national news outlet, as a digital and social media content producer or as a specialist journalist freelancing for national print and online publications writing about specific issues in your chosen field. You can tap into our strong links with local and national media employers to develop your own professional network. The MRes programme also provides a good grounding in the research process and can be used as a stepping stone into Doctoral research.
