About

This Masters in Advanced Materials and Additive Manufacturing programme at University of Derby  offers a unique blend between design and materials and manufacturing application. There are several pathways available which support a range of job roles; For design engineers interested in using Advanced Materials in their products, understanding applications and design optimisation.

 For those that are interested in integrating Additive Manufacturing in to business operations supported by effective use of data a visualisation to support a business case and identify the turning points between traditional manufacturing and additive manufacturing. While the programme is most suited for those from a mechanical or manufacturing background, we welcome enrolment from product design, physical sciences and other analytic disciplines.

Career

Upon graduating, you can expect to pursue a career in the manufacturing industry with roles related to the implementation of new and emerging technologies, particularly Additive Manufacturing. The skills gained will enable you to work in roles in component design and engineering, the management of this technical resource or at a strategic level formulating business plans based on complex data analysis. Upon completion of the degree, you’ll also have the potential to individually apply for professional accreditation as a chartered engineer.

Academic Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Required score: Lower Second Class

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to Lower Second Class on the UK Honour scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on the UK Honour scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

General Requirements

  • A minimum of a 2:2 undergraduate degree or similar qualification in chemistry, biology, geology, engineering or a related analytical discipline
  • A2 Mathematics or equivalent
